Nigeria's native animals lol
Nigeria is home to a rich and diverse plant and animal life. From the Jos Plateau Forest-grassland Mosaic to the Niger Delta, the country is filled to the brim with a variety of different species.
The country also offers a number of species that can only be found in Nigeria. We take a look at some of these species.

Savanna swamp shrew
The Savanna swamp shrew has become a threatened species because of habitat loss and is most common in the swamp areas of the Kainji Lake National Park.

Sclater's guenon
Also known as the Nigerian monkey, this primate can be found in the southern Nigeria's forests. They were believed to be extinct until the late 1980s when small populations of the guenons were discovered between Cross Rivers and the Niger. They have since been put on the list of endangered species. The only Sclater's guenons held in captivity can be found at the Centre for Education, Rehabilitation, and Conservation of Primates and Nature (CERCOPAN) in Cross River State.

Red-billed firefinch
This beautifully colourful bird was first introduced in Egypt and until recently could only be found in Nigeria. They can now also be found in Cameroon and some other parts of Africa.

Blue Diamond Tetra
These shimmery fish are sold wholesale in Nigeria and make excellent pets.

Fundulopanchax (Killifish)
Fundulopanchax, a genus of the more commonly known killifish, live in fresh water lakes and streams. Killifish eggs and the adults of some species are able to survive out of water for a certain period of time.
